Superior Ambulance Hosts Elmhurst Girl Scouts for Hands-On First Responder Training During National EMS Week

ELMHURST, IL — Superior Air-Ground Ambulance Service, Inc. hosted a group of Elmhurst Girl Scouts on Wednesday, May 20 for an immersive, hands-on educational experience at its headquarters, giving the 9-year-olds a firsthand look at emergency medical services (EMS) and basic life-saving skills.

This event coincides with National EMS Week, a national observance that highlights the essential role emergency medical professionals play in protecting community health and safety.

“National EMS Week is about recognizing the lifesaving work our teams do every day, but it’s also about looking ahead,” said Kim Godden, Vice President at Superior Ambulance. “By giving these young students hands-on experience with CPR and first aid, we’re helping build confidence and awareness that can make a real difference in an emergency.”

During the visit, the Girl Scouts toured a working ambulance, explored real emergency equipment, and participated in an interactive classroom session led by trained EMS professionals. The students learned the fundamentals of CPR and first aid and assembled their own first aid kits to take home.

“This is such a meaningful opportunity for the girls to learn skills that go far beyond the classroom,” said Courtney Fister, Troop Volunteer. “They’re not just having fun, they’re learning how to stay calm, help others, and potentially save a life, which is incredibly empowering at their age.”

By introducing young students to life-saving skills early, Superior Ambulance is building awareness, confidence, and preparedness, while also sparking interest in future careers in emergency medical services.

“Superior Ambulance is an outstanding community partner, and this program reflects their commitment to Elmhurst beyond emergency response,” said Elmhurst Mayor Scott Levin. “EMS professionals play a critical role in our community every day, and efforts like this help ensure the next generation understands and values that impact.”
